How many students can enroll in the Diploma Programme at Huron?

Our goal is to meet the demand of the program.  If that demand is for 60 students to enroll in the first cohort, that is what will be planned for and implemented.  If the demand is greater than 60, capacity will be increased.

How do we incorporate the IB Learner Profile into the units/our teaching?

The IB Learner Profile will become a part of daily life in A2-IB schools.  The Learner Profile traits will be taught, referenced and incorporated into the PYP, MYP, and DP units of inquiry.

In addition, it is important to note the Learner Profile traits will become tools linked to the work of Responsive Classroom at Mitchell and Developmental Designs at Scarlett. The connections for teachers immersed in these social and emotional learning practices are already evident in the work of teacher leaders in the building as they develop the initial units of inquiry.

What does the study of home/host country look like with the diversity of our school?

The home country is studied as a part of the content standards used to shape the curriculum.  The Michigan Academic Standards are the standards used in Michigan.

What is meant by "horizontal and vertical" alignment?

Alignment refers to the agreement between the content standards and assessment(s) used to measure those standards.

Horizontal alignment refers to the degree to which an assessment matches the corresponding content standards for a particular grade level.  Assessments match the breadth and depth of the standards to be considered strongly aligned.

Vertical alignment is the alignment of different parts of an entire education system - in our case from Kindergarten - 12th grade.  The standards and assessments themselves must be vertically aligned with one another so that they reflect a logical, consistent order for teaching the content in a subject area from one grade level to the next.

What does IB teacher professional development look like?

Teachers are put in the role of reflective and open mined learner, inquirer, risk-taker, and knowledgeable thinker during IB Category 1 professional development which is set in a workshop format.  Many of the AAPS staff who have already attended these workshops have remarked that they had to exhibit the Learner Profile traits to be as successful as possible during IB professional development.

When will Ann Arbor teachers be "IB trained"?

The training schedule as it is currently known is as follows:
- June 15, 2015:  Launching the MYP one-day workshop for all teachers at Scarlett and Huron.
- The week of August 17-21, 2015: For part of this week, Category 1 training for all PYP, MYP and possibly some DP teachers in Ann Arbor. The exact dates are currently being negotiated with the IB and will be shared as soon as they are available.

Who will be in charge of the PYP Exhibition, the MYP Personal Project, the DP Extended Essay, the DP Creativity, Action and Service (CAS), and the DP Theory of Knowledge (TOK)?

The answer to who is in charge of these aspects of IB will be part of what will need to be "figured out" during candidacy.   These roles are handled in different ways in different IB environments.  Small programs sometimes tend to connect these responsibilities with the coordinator position while the most robust programs have the coordinator oversee the activities while another teacher has direct responsibility for them.
